Service Registry/Visual C++ runtime error

S

Scott Miller

I recently upgraded to Adobe CS. Every aspect of the suite works as
expected, except for InDesign CS. On the start-up screen, when it gets to
the point where it is "Starting Up Service Registry" I get the following
error:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Run time error

Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADOBE\ADOBE INDESIGN CS\InDesign.exe

abnormal program termination

My only choice is to choose "OK" at which point the program quits.

With Adobe Tech support, I have gone through every step in the
trouble-shooting section with the exception of reformatting the hard drive
and installing just InDesign. I have researched and attempted every
Microsoft support fix for runtime library errors, but none specifically
relate to ID or CS so I don't know how effective those steps would be.

A quick review of what I have tried:

Uninstalling and reinstalling in safe mode
Disabling startup items and reinstalling in safe mode
Uninstalling and reinstalling only the InDesign component

The error doesn't appear in my Dr. Watson log. It always happens at the same
time, when the program goes to start up the service registry, I get the
runtime error/abnormal program termination.

I am running Windows XP Professional 2002 Service Pack 1 on an Athlon XP
2600 processor. I have a 40gb hard drive where I load programs and a 120gb
HD for data. I have 1 gig (2x512 sticks) of PC2700 DDR 400 RAM.

Thank you for any insight you can provide.
