explorer.exe runtime error

I have a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" box that appears and says:
"Runtime error!
Program: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
abnormal program termination"

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

We probably could if you gave us a little info, like when it occurs and
doesn't occur, what version of windows, etc.

Could be anything with the info thats there - beit hardware or software.

Hello. Thanks for responding. I'm using Windows XP Pro version 5.1.2600.

For example, if I double click on the D drive in "My computer", then this
error occurs. In order to look into my D drive I have to right click and use
"explore" to try to look into folders in "my document".

I don't seem to have trouble with anything outside of "my computer, my
documents, my music, my etc."

All of this seemed to start happening after I uninstalled IE 7, but I have
reinstalled a new IE 7. It didn't fix the runtime error though like magic.
:)

I'm not sure what more to add of value for symptoms.

Thanks!

Sounds like you caught a bug, or that its just one of those "windows things"
that happens. Try running AV across it first. If it comes up clean, try
system restore.

If all that fails, my favorite fix is to run an XP Upgrade from the install
disks. Let me know if that works.

Thanks for your help Chris. I restored my computer to a restore point
several days ago. That seems to have fixed everything. I got your post and
then also double checked for viruses. There were none. So...it seems to
have been "just one of those 'windows things'".)

Chris,
I am experiencing the same problem since I installed Norton Anti Spy
ware from Yahoo. I did uninstall Yahoo toolbar but still did not solve
the problem. I did go back to system restore did not help. I ran AV on
my computer no virus found. I am not able to use windows explorer. I
did find a workaround for double click of a folder; by changing the
folder options to open each folder in it own windows.

Thanks for you help in advance.

Hi! I also have a runtime error-happens when I try to open a Word attachment!
I've restored to an earlier date & that fixed it for a while. I have Avg
RUNNING EVERY MORNING AND HAVE CLEANED WITH sPYBOT AS WELL AS AdaWARE. I
Tried reloading ORIGINAL DISC BUT IT SAYS i HAVE A NEWER version ( had it
wiped a while back) It said if I loaded it it would lose my files and
settings! I tried doing the comdlg32.zip download to System32 but it says I'm
not authorised!
Any Help???

First... it really looked to me as if you were hijacking someone
else's thread (interrupting an ongoing discussion by interjecting YOUR
problem into it whether or not it applied), so I went to Google Groups
to be sure.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You fool: you are posting to a thread that ended SEPTEMBER 4 2006.

Hijack to your heart's content on this one.

Next one? Check the date before you reply with an ON TOPIC reply, or
start your own thread to discuss your problem.

Try an Office newsgroup since the problem is with opening Word
attachments. Someone there should know how to repair Word and Word
associations.
