I don't know if I am ignorant about this product or it is
still in beta testing!!!

On Feb 10 I accepted the upgrade now everything is bad!
I get lots of pop ups and I did not before
I can not set up my quicken Pro, it does not start since
it can not upload Java...dll or something.
I can not just type the URL address, I have to surch and
the popnav comes up!
Feels like I am forced to play it by someone else's rules.

Does anyone know how I can get my 5.5 explorer back?
Thanks
JP

1. Check if a program running in the background is interfering with Internet
Explorer. Temporarily disable all Norton programs, including anti-virus, win
doctor, recycle bin protect, and clean sweep. Disable any firewall or
ad-blocker.

2. Perform a repair of Internet Explorer. From Control Panel select
Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to Microsoft Internet Explorer and
highlight it. Click on the Add/Remove button. When the IE Tools menu comes
up, select Repair. Click OK.

3. If repairing does not work, uninstall and reinstall IE. At the same IE
Tools menu, select "Restore the previous Windows configuration". This will
take you back to IE5.5

If you like, then reinstall Internet Explorer.

You can also access the IE Toolbar by clicking Start > Run and type

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

4. Use IE Eradicator to completely delete Internet Explorer.

Make sure you have downloaded the IE6 setup files first, but not loaded.
Backup your Favorites folder.

IE6 works fine -generally speaking- and I haven't these issues with it.

Get MSVM Java here:

Get Sun Java here:

Get IE5.5 here: (BIG download ~ 80 + MB) Better get at least SP-1 , and
probably SP-2 would be advised.

popnav is a parasite. First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I should have taken note of that PopNav thing Frank. I guess the general
"broad stroke" slam at IE6 (service pack 6) threw me off a little. I had a
slightly hard time reading the text it seems. ;o)

JP,
Your problems do not appear to be from IE 6 ....
I get lots of pop ups and I did not before

it can not upload Java...dll or something.
IE 6 SP1 no longer supports Java, however you can install:

There's also "it can not upload Java...dll" to confuse things. Upload?

True. Although I shouldn't cast blame upon our OP, as *I* have been known
to make mistakes from time to time. Basically, I should have taken the time
to read it a bit closer, and to "edit in my mind the 'errors' " of the OP's
post.

Best Regards,

You are not ignorant. It is bad. For some reason I
can't access some secure sites. My computer was set to
automatically update Windows XP and when I tried the
fixes they suggested, it did not work. After loading the
service pack, I tried loading the other fixes and it said
that I needed the service pack. I have worked with Dell
to reload Windows XP (new computer) and I still have the
problem. I would love to get Explorer 5 back or another
browser. Help!!

Go to Tools > Options > Advanced. Scroll to Security section and uncheck Use
"SSL 3.0"
