Service Pack 3 for Office XP

After installing service pack 3, everytime i start outlook it tells me that
outlook was not closed properly and it then scans the pst file before opening
outlook. This only happens after I shut the machine down and turn it on the
next day and open outlook first thing in the morning.

How do you shut down your mashine?
Only press the Power Button?
