Service Pack 2

About three weeks ago I downloaded Service Pack 2. This
resulted in my operating system being completely screwed
up. With the help of a senior technician at Microsoft the
damage was corrected. This technician also told me that
the professional firewall and anti virus software
installed on my system makes it unnecessary for me to
instal Service Pack 2.

I am using the automatic downloading facilty of XP, which
has detected that I do not have Service Pack 2 and is
trying to download and instal it.

How can I stop this - I do not want or need this Service
Pack.

Many thanks, Walter

Hi

To avoid that Automatic Updates tries to install SP2 (up to 16. April
2005):

Toolkit to Temporarily Block Delivery of Windows XP SP2 to a PC
Through Automatic Updates and Windows Update
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BA-EA5D-4425-89C1-C1CB1CCD463C&displaylang=en

Run the XPSP2BlockerTools.exe in the link above. It will extract
several files to the folder you specify.

Then run XPSP2Blocker.exe to activate the blockage (it will create
the registry value described in the link above).

This way you can still use Automatic Updates to update your computer
but avoid to get SP2 installed (up to 16. April 2005).

Yeah, right - sure he did.
