Service Pack 2

Tried downloading Service Pack 2. Task bar message tells me my version of XP
is not secure. When I attempt to downlosd Service Pack 2 again the system
tells me it already installed.

Have you checked to see which SP you are running? Type

winver

from Start>Run.

Yes. This tells me SP1.

I checked in the add/remove programmes to uninstall but it is not listed

What taskbar message? Are you implying this message came as a result of
trying to downloading Service Pack 2? A message in the taskbar like that
could indicate some sort of malware infection.

Forgot to mention, there is a 5 point star in the task bar and if the pointer
hovers over it, the message appears
