Thanks

Like all service packs, it will be shipped when Microsoft deems it
ready to be shipped, and nobody knows in advance when that will be.

Most users are planning to skip Vista SP2 and go directly to Vista SP3, I
mean Windows 7!

don't get to excited, sp1 did clean up some of the bugs but not all. I been
trying Windows 7 Beta and I think I will wait for it.
So far it is much more stable than Vista ever was and it is only beta.

Your choice, of course.

So far it is much more stable than Vista ever was and it is only beta.

If your experience is that Windows Vista is not stable, you clearly
have an issue with *your* computer, its hardware/drivers, something
you've done to it, or perhaps with malware infection.

I personally have Vista installed on two computers here, this one
since RTM in November 2006. I also work with many other Vista users
and help them with their machines. On *all* these machines, Vista has
been completely stable, and has never crashed.

No one knows for sure, MS would tell you...when testing is complete.
I don't like Vista anyway, so it's a moot point to me.
I have not had a problem with Vista being stable, it's just a pig.
If you try to make it do anything, it squeals and asks for permission from
the Nanny.
Once it gets permission, it shuffles off to do the task. (XP double times
and W7 seems to walk briskly.)
I have tried the Beta of Windows 7 and it works better than Vista ever did,
and very few Nanny (UAC) prompts.
On the same hardware, triple booting XP pro, Vista and W7; W7 comes in
between XP and Vista in performance and 'seat of the pants' feel.

Vista service pack 2 'isn't' windows 7 regardless of what you read or hear.
Both SP2 and Windows 7 are in beta and, although the public have access to
Windows 7 neither SP2 or Windows 7 are at the stage for general release as
of this moment.

Sounds to me like UAC is what bugs you about Vista. That can be turned
off cleanly and never darken your door again.

I am running Vista Sp2 beta and all seems to be running fine. No problems
here.

No problems *yet*. You may or may not have them in the future. In my
view, running beta software (especially beta operating system
software) is foolhardy and looking for trouble. You shouldn't do that
unless you have an extra non-production machine to run it on, and you
enjoy playing around and looking for problems in the software, so you
can report them.

Its is on a test machine.

I have been a beta tester since early XP beta1.

Then that's fine, and I have no quarrel with what you are doing. I
would do the same if I only had some room here to put an extra
machine.

But my point wasn't really directed just at you, but at anyone who
reads my message. Many people unfortunately take the step of replacing
what they are running on their only machine with beta software; once
again, I think that doing that is foolhardy, and it's worth pointing
out the dangers of doing it.

I agree 100%, some people do not know what they are doing. I am also running
Windows 7 beta and that is running fine.

you mean more stable for you
my machines have never had a fault with vista and I have built and installed
literally hundreds
my only real reasons to switch to windows 7 would be
to keep up with the times
for the alleged speed increase
and just to be nosey and have a look

if vista was around forever it would be fine by me as it works great
