On a clients machine after removing some spyware using spybot s&d, Windows
2000 is running badly and freezing when using certain functions such as
search etc. if i run sfc /scannow it prompts me to copy files from a
network share which is not available or insert the sp2 cd which i don't
have. I have tried to run sp4 but the result is the same i.e. it trys to
copy files from the network share again. How can i get round this little
problem, is there a registry key i can edit so it looks elsewhere for the
installation files / sp2?
Any comments / suggestions greatly appreciated
Regards

Probably because your are not practicing Safe Hex nor maintaining the platform properly.

You should have installed SP4 *months* ago !

Hmm not very helpful, i am a computer consultant who has been hired to cure
this problem. I install pactches as they become available on machines which
are my responsibility. Anyone with a helpful suggestion?

And what does the OP do when prompted for the Windows 2000 SP4 CD that
the OP doesn't have?
