I have heard that service pack 2 is being steadily updated, and that
installer cd's install xp with sp2 as a beta instead of the full version.
Here are the numbers from about windows for my windows xp and 2000 machines.
Are these the newest versions?

Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
from running the winver command
OS Name Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
Version 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4 Build 2195
from system information

When Microsoft publicly releases a particular Service Pack,
it does not change at all. If future updates are recommended,
they are available at the Windows Update web site.

In other words, there are no differing versions of a
Service Pack "build" once it is designated as RTM
(Released To Manufacturing).

Your versions are correct.

What you have heard is incorrect.
The SP-2 released several months ago is identical to SP-2 as it will be next
year.
The same goes to SP-4 and other Service Packs.

I suggest you stop listening to those that clearly know little or nothing
about what they are talking about.

Hello, this is digital explorer. I just thought I would observe that though
you answered my question by saying that the rtm version is the final one, my
version which I posted was not final, being a gdr version. What does gdr
stand for anyway?
