Service Pack 2 Setup Error

T

Tor-Magne

Hi

When I installed (and reinstalled) RC2 I got an error: An extended error has
occurred.
Then: Service Pack 2 installation did not complete.

Using Help/About - telling Sp2 is installed.
Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

Hi

The details to setup OE for those News Groups are on that link. Scroll down and have a look under "Viewing these Newsgroups through Outlook Express".

Hi

I use msnew.microsoft.com and privatenew2.microsoft.com, but can not find
any groups with the name sp2 or xpsp2 - any ideas?

I have tried this on two PCs.

Hi

The Server should be privatenews.microsoft.com - not privatenew2.microsoft.com.

Hi

After you have set the server up - you just need to click on the Server name - privatenews.microsoft.com in OE and you should see a message to download the News Groups. Check through the Account you have setup for those News Groups to make sure that you have every setting the same as on the web page. Are you seeing any error messages?

In OE go to Tools>Accounts. Then select the Account for those NGs and click on Properties>Server tab. Try the following for the Account name: if you haven't already got it:

privatenews\sp2user

Hi

I use privatenews\DirectAccess - if I change to privatenews\sp2user I do
need a password.
Do you have a password?

Did you bother to read the link Will gave you *AT ALL*?! It *TELLS* you what
the password is on the very first page!! Of course, it does requre a little
effort on your part - you have to /scroll/. You do know how to scroll, don't
you...? You use the wheel-thing on your mouse - or, if your mouse doesn't
have a wheel, you click the little down arrow.

Or is that all too technical for you...?

Hi
Thank you for your help Will - sorry, but I did not notice the vertical
scrollbar.
I think there is an angry Miss somewhere around in the NNTP space.
