Service Pack 2 screws up disk defrag

I have noticed that since installing Service Pack 2 on my machine (Win XP Pro
2002) that my disk defrag takes much much much longer to process. I use to
be able to defrag my sall C: drive (8GB only 50% filled) in about 20 minutes
(an old slow drive I admit). It now takes somewherre around 2 hours to
defrag the drive.
Is there any way to get back to the previous level of operation?
What is it about SP2 that makes everything move so slpwly? (It also takes
about 45 seconds longer to boot up my machine now).
Thanks

This could be because it has less free space available for moving stuff
around. Is it nearly full?

That's partly because it's doing more things, such as loading the new
Security Centre. Have a look at the Services manager (I think it's
Start/Administrative Tools/Services, but I'm on a Windows 2000 machine here
at work) and look whether any services are listed as "Starting". It could be
that some of the services are having problems and slowing things down.
