I recently installed a new hard drive on my computer and then used the
Windows XP Home disk that was supplied with my computer to re-install Windows
on the new hard drive. I then commenced updating Windows with the Windows
update utility. All was well until I tried to install Service Pack 2. My
computer would no longer start up properly. I started my computer in safe
mode and uninstalled Service Pack 2 and everything was working properly
again. If Service Pack 2 is a reccommended download how can I install it so
that my computer functions after the installation? What am I doing wrong?
I'm 100% sure there is nothing wrong with the new hard drive.

I had similar problems with SP2 time after time. I finally resorted to
ordering the SP2 CD from Microsoft, installing XP, then applying the SP2 CD,
then did the windows updates.

Haven't had too many problems since.

best to install the xp, turn off auto updates, install SP2 update from microsoft or from cd, then turn auto update back on. and do an update.
