Try booting into Safe Mode.

Turn on the computer and start tapping the F8 key rapidly when the
first information of any kind shows on the screen. Keep tapping until
the Windows XP Startup Menu appears and choose Safe Mode from the
menu.

When it has booted into Safe Mode go into Control Panel - Add/Remove
Programs and uninstall Service Pack 2.

Before trying to reinstall Service Pack 2 see the following web site
for advice on preparing for the install:

Good luck

I did follow those instructions. Didn't work, I am afraid. Same old reboot
loop. I have had to reinstall XP twice. Great software.
