Service Pack 2 installation problems

Running XP Home Edition on a newish PC.
When installing the SP2 from CD it seems to go through the motions,
unpacking, etc then nothing much seems to happen...wait a
while.....still nothing. I then restart the PC and check still only
SP1 installed.

Any advice please?
