After loading XP service pack 2 I lost the little arrow
and all the icons except microsoft messenger and clock.
The arrow is gone also that hides the icons. The task
bar menu properties window seems OK but nothing is
there. I appreciate any help.

The arrow only shows up to hid unused icons. Since there's no icons, the
arrow won't show up.

Have you tried right clicking the START button and choosing Properties? Go
to the Taskbar tab and make sure HIDE INACTIVE ICONS is checked, then click
Customize button. In the dialog box, click RESTORE DEFAULTS. Even if it's
already checked, uncheck it, recheck it and restore the customized defaults.
This may do the trick.

You will also be able to see a list of all the icons that could potentially
be hidden.
