Service Pack 1a

I downloaded service pack sp1a into winxp-home and
installed it.....then made the mistake of deleting the
huge files they created on my hard drive.....only to
discover that I couldn't run windows file protection
(SFC /scannow) without them resident on my computer. I
couldnt retrieve the deleted files. Well I can come up
with the sp1a easily enough but when I try to show it to
the sfc /scannow program it says its not the right program
and refuses to proceed. It now seems that the only way to
get sfc /scannow to run is to install it again over the
existing install....surely I'm not the only person who has
done this and surely this stupid solution isn't the only
way but...I am kinda helpless here....does anyone have any
ideas?

Hi,

Yep, a serious error in judgement there. You will need to reinstall SP1 in
order to recreate the ServicePackFiles folder that is now missing. What you
CAN delete is the $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder in the \Windows directory.
