Service Pack 1 Problem

Q

QRM

I recently installed Service Pack 1 for Office 2007. After the installation I
received a Registry Error messag and word would not install properly. I now
can not open Word 2007 and if it does open I can not use the mouse to contact
any information. Has anyone else had a similar problem and how did you fix it?

Try rolling back Windows to the point before you installed the service pack
if the restore point is still available.
What was the wording of the error message?

This is the error messege I receive while office trys to setup.

Error 1406.setup cannot write the value to the registry key \HWXInk.E-Ink.
Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact
Microsoft Product Support Services for assistance. For information about how
to contact PSS, see
C:\users\richmi~1\appdata\local\temp\setup0000122c\pss10r.chm.

I am not certain this will help. I have tried these without success.

i also heard that winzip compatibility update may be the problem. I have
un-installed winzip and the compatibitliy update for office 2007. Still no
luck. It only affects Word 2007.

Hi QRM,

The HWX key is Handwriting/Pen/Inking Recognition.
What languages are enabled and what mouse/pen devices are you using?

Error 1406 is usally from having only restricted accessibility to the reg key that Setup is trying to update. This can come from
either some software being in use that is tying up a particular function or installing from a non-Admin login account.

In some cases you can modify the permissions of a particular key to set it to 'Full Control' to include your Login/Profile.

If you hold the ctrl key when starting Word do you get the same error/problem?

I had similar problems. You may find my recent post "Repair 1406 and 57E
Window Update Errors Registry Issues" may help.
good luck
