Service pack 1 help !!!

First of all, how come there is no phone number to call
for live, instant help with these marvellous products?

I have a 2 day old laptop with XP Home edition.

I am trying to download some photographs from my canon
digital camera like I did every week on to my previous
laptop running on ME.

Error message, " usbscan.sys." required from service pack
1 CD.

I have been to the downloads page and was informed that
there were no upgrades for my computer.

No help from Toshiba, I am not an expert and need
help...anyone ???

You will get no support from Microsoft for this situation. It is Toshiba's
responsibility to support Microsoft Windows, on their laptop, as they
supplied you with an OEM version, that they, Toshiba, supports, and
Microsoft does not.

Call them back, and if they won't support their product, take it back and
demand a full refund.

Uninstall, then reinstall the latest Windows XP compatible
drivers for your specific model scanner.

Usbscan.Sys is a standard driver supplied by Microsoft
located in the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder.
The SP1 version would be 5.1.2600.1106.

Did the notebook arrive with Service Pack 1 installed ?
If so then Toshiba may have made a mistake in their
image by omitting the file or it could have been damaged.

I would do a search on your C: drive for the Usbscan.Sys.
If it exists in another folder location, copy the file to the
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder and retry the camera.

Well, I suppose, if I had your email address I could mail you a copy of the
file.
Or would that be some sort of copyright violation.
I don't know, I'm not a lawyer.
