Reformat your drive and install the "released version" of
Windows XP. Apparently, you are using an old, obsolete
beta version which is unsupported.
Go to Run > Start and type: WINVER , and hit enter.
If "Version 5.1 (Build 2600) is not shown, you are running an old
obsolete beta version of XP for which there is no update support. If
that's the case, you need to reformat your drive and install
the released version of XP, after purchasing it.
Or, you are trying to install the 64-bit version of SP1. You need
the "32-bit version".
You can download SP1a directly. It is an executable file.
