Service Name (or a service display name) already in use

When I install a Scanner driver, apparently it also install a service
into my Win2000.

It seems like there is already a service or service display name
already in use.

Question is how do I find out ? I can't find it in the event viewer.
How can I tell which service or service display name is duplicated ?

What this means (as far as I can tell) is that you already have a Service that goes by the name of that which you are trying to install. You can look in Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services. Here are most of the services you have.

The other location is in the registry. Start | Run | regedit | OK. Navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Under this key you will find all your Services each with their own key name.

When I go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools |
Services, I get a list of serivces. That's fine. But the problem
is.... when I install the new driver, it does not tell me what is the
Service Name or the Service Display Name. So which one is clashing ?

That's a problem and I suspected as much from your OP. You'll have to find some way of determining the name of the Service it is trying to install. Look in Google is the best I can do. Once found you can remove the service using instsrv from the Windows 2000 Resource kit.
