Removing a un-needed service

B

Bill Post

System: Win XP Home Edition, Service pack 3

After un installing a anti virus program, a couple of services were left
behind
which are preventing me from installing a later version of the software.
The error I get when trying to install the software is:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgtdix.sys: creating service....
The name is already in use as either a service name or a service display
name.
It seems that the only way to do the install is to first remove the existing
service
listings.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Bill

You can usually go back to the AV program supplier to get an uninstaller
package for the software. I have found the simple uninstalls rarely work for
AV programs, you have to use the companies uninstaller tool.

In the event your AV software company does not supply the uninstaller, there
are some 3rd party uninstall programs. I am not a company rep for any
software company. I have used Revo Uninstaller to remove an unwanted program
and was very satisfied. I am sure there are others.

Good luck. I know how annoying these situations can be.
