Service Marked for Deletion: Symantec Core LC

Besides ditching Norton, is there solution to following? On Windows XP Home
with SP2, I can install Norton Internet Security 2006, but can't activate.
Searching services, XP is marking Symantec Core LC (service necessary for
activation process) as Disabled and marking it for deletion. When I restart,
service file is deleted.

Symantec's solution has been to install and uninstall the application
multiple times!! Searching the error "Service is marked for deletion," I
notice BUG reports, but pertaining to Visual Studio.net.

I know I'm not the only one experiencing this; what's the solution?

Whoopss.. Wrong move there editor30!

What you need to to is before activating the product, is to make sure that
the Symantec Core LC service is set to 'Automatic'.

Restart the computer immediately and you should be able to activate the
program.

Please post the result!

Thanks for response. Yes, I tried multiple times to set service to Automatic,
but that's when I got the Internet Explorer popup errors that say "Service
Marked for Deletion." There is NO way to turn the service on.

Continuing to search for solutions, I think I found it in the 25-post thread
titled "Automatic Updates service keeps getting deleted, from last Aug-Nov.

This indicates it's Trojan virus that blocks both Windows and Norton
updates. Hopefully this will work as well for me as for all the others who
posted!! Very troubling that Norton couldn't find virus, didn't mention this
as possible problem given thread here and elsewhere.
