Server Service won't start

Hi

I have a new system that worked okay for a week, but now the Server Service
doesn't start...and this system was to share the printer and folders. I get
the following error in the event log...

Type: Error
Source: Service Control Manager
Error: Event ID: 7023
Description: The Server service terminated with the following error: The
system cannot find the file specified.

When I try to start the server service manually I get the following error
message: Could not start the Server service on local Computer. Error 2: The
system cannot find the file specified.

In effect there are no network services available from this machine and
therefore it can not be seen on the network.

Which files are used by the server service. If I know which file is missing
I may be able to copy it back from another machine?

It is XP SP2 Pro

Peripherals are an External USB Harddrive, HP 4890 Scanner.
Additional Software is Norton's AV 2006, PCAnywhere 12, Office 2003.

Anyone got an idea to help me?? I can't see why it has stopped, the
svchost.exe file is there where it should be?!?

Damien,

See if the file srvsvc.dll is present in %SystemRoot%\System32\ folder. If
not, expand a copy from the source path.
