Probably some type of infection.
Try external virus scan at
www.antivirus.com or
http://securityresponse.symantec.com
Write down an infection, search Google for the
<name>+virus and look for a fix sheet from
TrendMicro, and print it. Go line by line;do
everything it says to do, or the infection will be
back.
Open you Task Manager
(right mouse task bar, choose properties)
Processes tab
click header button marked CPU
Processes using CPU will show up at the top
Post the process taking up the Processor
Do you have broad band?
If you do, close applications online and place your
modem in Standby
Watch your processes then ( and keep an eye on the
activity light on your tower)
Get MSCONFIG at
http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Msconfig.htm
Place it in your System32 directory.
To make a shortcut, right click it and choose
Sendto desktop (as a shortcut)
You can slide it onto you quick launch bar or left
click it and drag it onto your Start button and
keep holding it down and when it expands, keeping
your left mouse down, move it to Programs,
Accessories, System Tools, and drop it in the place
where Defrag is located.
You also can drag any of these shortcuts on the
Start button menu up and down to place them as you
prefer.
For the time being, you may want to just drop on
top on "Start", and it will be at the top of the
Start drop down (er drop up) ;o)
