server is not configured for transactions -

James C.

we have two standalone windows profesional 2000
workstations. Each machine has a shipping application
called StarShip. both machines are listed in the network
neighborhood browser. If you double click on one machine
it shows all the visible shares and network printers
associated with that machine. if you double click on the
other machine in network neighborhood it will work the
same way for a few minutes or hours and then suddenly when
you click through it you recieve an error message dialog
that states. "The server is not configured for
transactions."

If I uninstall the file and print sharing service in that
machine, it will work for another few minutes or hours and
then get the error again when accessed. The event log
doesn't have any error messages associated with this. And
I have both machines on the latest service packs.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you
ahead of time!

Hi

Maybe this will help you:

Problem:
========
If you double click on one machine
it shows all the visible shares and network printers
associated with that machine. if you double click on the
other machine in network neighborhood it will work the
same way for a few minutes or hours and then suddenly when
you click through it you recieve an error message dialog
that states. "The server is not configured for
transactions."

Cause:
======
Determine if the server is configured for File and Printer Sharing
optimization of "Minimize memory used." It would generally take 10 minutes
before the errors started to occur.
This could be the reason.

Resolution:
==========
change the file and printer sharing setting to "maximize data throughput
for file sharing".
