Server compatibility

I use an e-mail server called "emailMyName.com". I am setting up a new
desktop with Vista Home and am using the included Windows Mail program. I
can send e-mails out, but cannot recieve. My service sent me a list of the
progams they support and Windows Mail is not on the list. Is this why I
cannot recieve e-mails? Is there anything I can do or do I have to install
Outlook Express on the new system and give up on Windows Mail?

Outlook Express won't run under Vista.

The instructions for setting up under Outlook Express usually also work
under Windows Mail, though, as long as they don't call for the HTTP
protocol, and don't offer a one button click to execute all the instructions
without looking at the settings.

I notice that your post arrived after several other messages with later
timestamps, so it's probably also worth checking if you have the date,
time, and time zone set correctly on your computer; significant errors in
these sometimes have odd effects on Windows Mail.

If that doesn't fix it, what if any antivirus programs do you have on
that computer and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus
program on it, even a free trial version? A significant number of the
Windows Mail problems we see here eventually turn out to be
interference from an antivirus program that is not fully compatible
with it, but is sufficiently slow about causing problems.

Also, do you have the Free Google Toolbar program on your computer
(not the same as a website which can ask for a Google search)? It
also causes problems in Windows Mail. So do a few antispam
programs, so what if any antispam programs do you have one?

Email is a universal protocol that is not tied to specific email programs.
The directions for Outlook Express will also work for Windows Mail.

Do you get an error message when you try to receive? If so,
right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it into a reply here.

Outlook Express can't be installed on a Vista computer.
