Serious WindowsXP Pro Installation Problem

A

AA Smith

I recently had to get a replacement CD from Microsoft for my original WinXP
Pro CD because the original got cracked.

When I try to install WindowsXP Pro to repair my original Windows
installation, it progresses normally until it gets to the Registering
Components process. At that point an error message pops up stating:

Error While Registering UNREGMP2.exe
Entry Point not found

The procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link
library MSDART.DLL

Interestingly, the series of square green dots in the lower right of the
screen continue indicating that the installation is progressing when this
happens and the text displays continue to change like they do while
installation is running.

I continually clicked on the OK button for this error for quite a while,
then the error message display ended and installation continued through to
completion.

However, WinXP Pro doesn't work right under these circumstances. For one
thing, Windows Update won't run. The Explorer crashes while trying to find
the Windows Update pages to display.

How can I get this installation problem resolved?

I shall greatly appreciate your help.

When the problem occurs, press Shift +F10 to bring up the
command prompt. Then type taskmgr.exe in the DOS window
and press Enter. The Task Manager should be started. If
not, try to press C+Shift+ESC. In the Task Manager
program, select the error messsage window in the
application list and click "End Task". In the process
list, terminate the unregmp2.exe program. Exit the DOS
prompt window and resume the installation process.

.

Did you try a Google search using "The procedure entry
point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link
library MSDART.DLL" ? You'l get at least 42 hits on this
error message.
