Serious Windows Problem

I tried to turn on my computer and Windows will not start. I get an error
message that say that MSVCP60.dll can not be found. I'm running winXP
professional. I can't start Windows in any mode. I've also tried booting
from my windows disc, and repairing my current instalation, but this fails as
well. When trying to repair, setup begins copying files and reaches 64%,
then stops and says that it cannot copy file pstorsvc.dll. If I try to skip
it, it fails on the next file, etc.

I do not want to do a complete reinstall, as I need to recover some of my
files. is there anything I can do? Please advise.

One possible way to save your files might be to :

-disconnect your first hard drive
-install a 2nd hard drive
-do a fresh install of Windows onto the 2nd hard drive and make that the C:
drive
-reconnect your 1st hard drive and name it D: or some other letter besides C:

If your file system is intact on your 1st hard drive then you should be able
to read it from your new boot drive.
-Make sure to copy all your old data to your new hard drive asap as a backup.

One file recovery option is to install the drive as a slave drive in another
XP or Windows 2000 computer and copy the important files. Always have a
full and complete backup.

Once files are backed up download a drive diagnostic utility from the drive
manufacturer's web site. This will create a bootable floppy or CD. Boot
from that and run diagnostics on the drive.

Use a CD cleaner to clean the CD drive. Clean the XP CD. Try a different
XP CD of the same type.

You might also want to test the memory. Download at least two of this
diagnostic utilities. They will create either a bootable floppy or CD. Let
them run for a long time, just not a single pass.
