Serial cable....

Hi, I,m new to this, and quite pc illiterate!.

i wonder if anybody can help?.
I recently bought a serial-cable for my daughters samsung-phone, with the
purpose of downloading tunes/images, e.t.c. to the said phone.
all that came was the the afforementioned cable and nothing else,so i
thought i had nothing else to do but plug it in to "D" shaped port at the
rear of my pc, but all that happens is whenever i "Boot-up" the pc trys to
install a new printer and asks for the disk??

the cable consists of a plug for the phone and 2 other plugs a usb and a
serial with a "Black box" thingy in between. the phones handbook says to use
the serial-port of your pc?.
I'm totally confused....help!!

a serial connection is ancient and i am surprised your computer has one.
What happens when you use the usb connection?

My guess would be you bought an old "T100" serial cable, and you have a
"D500" phone. (or perhaps vice-versa)
