Serial ATA Harddrive

I need to know how to get winXP to acknowledge my serial drives.

System is:
K8V SE deluxe MB
(1) Maxtor 120GB
(1) Western Digital 120GB
1 GB DDR
(1) ATA with winXP installed and running good
AMD 64 +3200

I have two 120 drives connected to serial ports but cannot get winXP to
recognize them as separate drives not "RAID" or I either accept
Raid..but the drive are not acknowledged either way..

Any and all help appreciated.

How is your System BIOS (also the RAID controller BIOS) configured? Likely
it is controlled by hardware (it is first anyway..)

This would have to be set in the BIOS. Consult your MB manual for the
proper settings. Took me a while to get mine to recognize the Raid
array.....finally, figured out I was missing a step in the BIOS setup. (I
gather from your post that yours is recognizing the two drives as a RAID
configuration, is that correct?). You will need to be in the Advanced BIOS
Features, (for Phoenix-Award Bios) and make sure the onboard SATA controller
is enabled. If you have installed the Raid volumes, there should be steps
in the Raid configuration utility to reset the disks to Non-Raid.

If the manual for your MB is not available, you should be able to get help
from the MB site and they may even have a number you can call for help with
the setup.

Did you format the drives? If not, do a low level formatting using hdd
manufacturer utilities or even the XP install CD. I also assume that you
installed the SATA chipset drivers - should be on mobo install CD or Asus
site.
Anyway, review the Asus manual - available online also.

Hello;
This is william...and I've found the information I was looking
for...Not me but a friend help me find it..It's so simple..that it makes
the good tech seem out of touch..Winxp Pro has a fix within itself that
allows you to get the drives to be recognized....

Windows will not see the drives until they are properly setup.
If you have properly installed the RAID drivers(which i did) the disk
will not be viewed by clicking on My Computer or explorer.
CLICK ON START>CONTROL PANEL>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGER.
NOW CLICK ON ">DISK MANAGEMENT" IF YOU SEE THE DRIVE >RIGHT CLICK and
choose PARTITION, FORMAT etc.
Once this is done you can "SEE" the drive in explorer or My Computer.
I hope this helps someone else with the same problem I had.
