Tomorrow, Dell comes to my house to get my new laptop up
and running.
It will have WinXP.
Win98 had ScanDisk.
Bill Gates chose to not put that into Win2000 as a readily
available item; sure he made chkdsk available but more
than two years went by before I found out it was there.
His stupid blunder may be the ultimate cause of why I had
some many problems with my old computer.
What will WinXP have in the way of ScanDisk or chkdsk?

I dunno about the other items, however, there is NO scan disk with Win XP,
its a more lengthy process, right click disk drive, click tools, click error
checking and then 2 check marks in the boxes and then reboot, this fix bad
sector areas and fix system files, its 5 steps and it takes a while

It took you TWO YEARS to learn about chkdsk and you call Bill Gates
stupid??? I think that if you were to go to a dictionary and look up the
work STUPID, you would find your picture there.

The stupid blunder is all yours.. have fun looking for the swapfile.. if you
haven't found it at the end of two years, come back and ask..

On a serious note, the first thing that you should do is change the XP look
to 'classic' and set visual effects to 'best performance' or you are going
to have a helluva time adjusting..

As others have told you, WinXP has chkdsk. Scandisk was not a "save-all" by
any means. In fact, it could be quite dangerous. Evidentally you never ran
across its "automatically fix errors" which turned 99% of the files on the
system into .chk files thereby totally destroying the installation.

Without knowing what went wrong with your old system, it would be impossible
to say whether or not chkdsk would have helped.

lost objectivity of the problem.

No problems here...I wasn't emotional at all when I responded. It does not
take me 2 years to learn how to use a new OS, and when I make a mistake or
do something stupid, I don't blame it on Bill Gates and call him stupid. By
the way, I typed this slowly because I know you can't read very fast. I
also tried not to use any big words.

In all seriousness, in TWO YEARS you never once right clicked on a drive
icon to use Defrag, or to check the status of a drive? It took you TWO YEARS
to "learn" about a part of windows that you could have found by using "Help
and Support"? Then you say that it was an intentional act by Bill Gates?
Get a life.
