seperate search window pop ups

Hello;
i use google as my home page. Several months ago a visitor
to my home was using IE 5, and ever since i have been
having problems with a seperate search window popping up
on the left hand side of my browser everytime i launch IE.
I have gone into the 'customize toolbar' and removed
the 'search button' from the toolbar, but it does not
retain the settings when i reboot and re-launch. I even
downloaded IE6, which i'm using now, but it continues to
happen. Nobody knows why this is happening. All i want to
do is launch my home page with the main window coming up,
without the side window popping up as well.

I am also getting this obnoxious 'globe-finder' web page
that people have referred to, pop up as well which i can't
even 'alt-tab' to get out of. I've seen some remedies to
this posted here and i will try them. I wonder if they're
connected in some way??

download spybot and adware 6, maybe they will get rid of
your malware.
