Separate Windows w/ PowerPoint v2003?

When working on two or more .ppt files simultaneously,
e.g. to make a new presentation by reusing old content,
how can I configure PowerPoint v2003 to view multiple
instances of the PowerPoint application simultaneously,
one for each slide deck / .ppt file? (much like you can
do with Word or Excel files)

I use the Windows "Multiple Monitors" feature so having
one instance of the PowerPoint application leaves me with
a second monitor screen blank -- far from ideal when
compiling a new slide deck from multiple older deck
sources :)

Kind Thanks,
Bob

Also, this is a good reason for retaining the old version of PowerPoint when
you upgrade. You can only run one instance of PowerPoint 2003, but you can
also run an instance of PowerPoint 2002 and/or 2000 and/or 97. I do this
often when I want to compare menus and options, etc.

Thanks for the idea -- I have tried that and the problem is that the two monitors are most often different screen resolutions, e.g. 1600x1200 on a 21" and 1024x768 on a 17". Ends up using only ~half of the 21" monitor. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Bob

With a multi-monitor setup, you can stretch the PowerPoint window to occupy
all monitors. Then select "Window" | "Arrange All" menu item. Does this
help?

How do I install two (simultaneous) versions? I just upgraded to 2003 and
didn't know how I do this...is it in the ppt-faqs?

Thanks!

I don't know if you can do it with an upgrade. I have the full package for
the last four versions of Office, so I don't have experience with the
upgrades. When you installed the upgrade, do you remember if there was an
option to replace the current version? If there is, you would opt to NOT
replace it and you would specify that Office 2003 be installed in a
different folder. Multiple versions must be installed in order by age,
oldest first, and each version should be installed to a different folder.
For example, I have four folders - - C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 97,
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 2000, etc.

Hi Bob,

This may seem simplistic, but have tried resizing the
windows within PowerPoint? Presentations open with the
window maximized. I just click on the "Restore Window"
icon in the upper right and resize the presentation
windows. I frequently do this when switching back and
forth between multiple presentations and I need to make
comparisons. You can open multiple presentations
and "tile" them within a single instance of PowerPoint.
