When I send an email, I go to my sent items, and the item envelope
icon is open like it has been read. I need to know if my emails are
being read. It use to work, but lately, I have downloaded upgrades,
so I am thinking something got messed up. In my work acct, envelopes
remained closed until the receipent reads the mail.
I hate to be a contrarian, but, umm, no, it didn't. Sent items will always
be open/read in your sent items folder. After all, you just wrote them,
they've already been read. Well, ok, I can give you one exception: If you
open other mailboxes and reply to mail in *those* mailboxes, the sent items
will be unread because *you* didn't send them, they'll be from the address
of the other mailbox.
If you want to be 'sure' that someone has read your mail, send a read
receipt on the message, but even that is no proof that a mail has (or
hasn't) been read. In an Exchange environment, the recipient has the option
to not send a read receipt (I know I've never sent one) and in an Internet
environment (smtp), there are only really delivery receipts.
I'm not sure what you are actually seeing in your work account, but I can
guarantee you that whether or not the recipient reads the mail has no
bearing on the read/unread state in your sent items.
