Sent emails (IMAP) always duplicated in OL

Whenever I send an email I get two in my Sent Items folder - one shows the
envelope icon closed, the other one shows the envelope icon open (as if
read). What is causing this to happen, and how can I fix it?

Thanks!

What version of Outlook? Do you have any outgoing rules? Who supplies the
IMAP server (i.e., is it Google)?

Hey Brian (I feel like I know you, you helped me so many times!)

Sorry to have left out such essential details!

Outlook 2007.
No outgoing rules.
AOL supplies the IMAP server - I have another account that is NOT AOL and I
do not have that issue.

Have you specified the Sent Items folder in the account settings for the IMAP
account?

Yes - I specified the default AOL Sent folder. Should I try creating my own
Sent folder and specifing that one instead?

It could be that AOL is doing the duplication. Some IMAP services
automatically copy the sender's message. I don't use AOL, so it may or may
not be true, but it's a possibility. I'd simply remove the Sent Items
settings in the account and see what happens.

Brian,

Not sure what you mean by "remove the sent items" settings...can you be more
specific?

Creating a different Sent folder and using it didn't change anything...

Thanks!
