Sent Item emails have disappeared

One of our users has lost the emails in their sent items folder. If you look
in the folder there are no items but the folder size reveals there are 72Mb
of stuff in there. also if you tick the box to display the total number of
emails it shows 515. Does anyone know if there is an option that may have
been selected that would have hidden the items? There is no filter applied.

Reset the view to its default.

I tried resetting the view to it's default and it doesn't make a difference.
I opened up the email folder in office 2000 and was able to see some of the
items but outlook crashed when I got to a certain item. I managed to move
about half of the emails into a new folder but it looks like there is one
email that is causing outlook problems. Is there anyway to delete this one
email without being able to see it?

How do you know it crashed when it got to a certain item if the item isn't
there to be seen?

If you can identify the itme that is causing problems, create a new PST,
make it your delivery location, and just copy everything BUT that item from
the old folder to the new.

I know it is a specific email because I can scroll up to a certain point and
then it crashes, always on the same next email. Unfortunately I can't move
all the emails into a different folder because it trys to display the corrupt
email and falls over. I could move all the emails previous to it but now it
won't display sentitems at all because it is the next email to be displayed.
