Sending message 8 of 8 / 9 of 9?

I often notice that when sending a message in Outlook 2007 that the status
bar reads "sending message 8 of 8" or "sending message 9 of 9" even when
there is only one message in the outbox.

This seems to be a bug.

It's probably the result of undeliverable read receipts. See if this helps:

I don't think that would be it. A read-receipt is a message just like any
other and would show up in the Outbox.

In my case, I have one item in my outbox and when I click "Send Now", it
says "sending message 8 of 8". I would expect to see "sending message 1 of 1".

Nope. Read receipts are hidden messages.
