Sending from MS Outlook 2007

I have Windows Vista and use MS Outlook 2007 for my e-mails.

I read and occasionally send e-mails, however sometime I just click send/recieve to see if any new messages are coming, and it holds whilst stating

"Sending message 3 of 8" even when nothing is in the outbox.

Could someone please explain, and how to stop it.

Only suggestion I got when asking in Computeractive forum was it may be a virus.

My virus software is completely up to date..

Oh dear

Oh dear, nobody has an answer to my query, I didn't realize it was so difficult, even the forum on Computeractive does not have an answer. Is there anyone who can help
