When clicking send/recieve i get the emails downloaded off the BTINTERNET
POP3 server but to send them it asks for username and password. I type them
in but all it does is repeatedl ask for them again and again. I have changed
the outgoing STMP to another value provided but still get the same problem.
All the settings are as told they should be by the guides given

Try typing the username in the opposite 'case' that tou are using. In other
words if you are using upper case, try lower case. As you have typed your
server name in upper case that may be the problem.

i have tried the opposite case but still doesn't work. It still comes up with
the Windows security message asking for confirmation of username and password
repeatedly!

Please give us the exact and complete error message.

basically my email provider is bt. I followed their instrctionson how to set
up windows mail. Whenever I click send and recieve i get the window up but it
stops at authourising and another window pops up titled Windows Security.
this asks me to verify my username and password are correct for the server
(mail.btinternet.com). So I verify and it keeps on coming up with the
security window, continuously, everytime I enter in details and hit OK and it
comes up again

Some email servers require you to enter your username with no spaces and
no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require you to follow it with the part of
your email address that starts with @, and some require that you don't.
Many require you to be careful which letters of your password are CAPITAL
and which are lowercase. Many give rather vague error messages about
exactly what's wrong if they find any problem at all with your username and
password.

If you click Cancel instead of OK, it should give you a more comprehensive
error message.

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them are not compatible with
Windows Mail.

I'm running avg. When I hit Cancel it just says error in send/recieve mail
because of lack of username/password....

Chances are, you installed AVG using the default install option.
If so, uninstall it, then reinstall, but select custom install,
which then allows you to unselect its troublesome email
scanning module.
