Sending email with Outlook

Chucky

I could not send email with Outlook or Outlook Express through my Comcast
high speed account, I could receive email though. Finally after 6 Comcast
techs on the phone a friend of mine said to change the SMTP setting from 25
to 465 and that fixed the problem. At least in Outlook Express. I then put
in the same settings into Outlook and it still will not send mail, only
receive. Any ideas? I'm using Windows XP. This is a laptop and I took it to
work and hooked it to Comcast and it sends and receives email just fine set
to SMTP port 25.

Since the results you experienced contradict eachother either set it to
authenticate or set it to use SSL for SMTP. Contact your ISP to verify the
settings.

My ISP is Comcast and I have talked to at least 6 different people and they
don't know anything but the default settings and won't even discuss setting
anything other that default. I did forget to mention that to make Outlook
Express work I also checked the SSL box and checked it in Outlook too. What
it appears to point to is a problem with the Comcast at my apartment, but
Comcast says the cable modem would not cause this problem and the cable
itself would not be the cause. I have tried 2 different routers and that
did not change the problem. I set up a different computer to send and
receive my mail and it came up with the same error code when sending.
Comcast says the "0f" or "OF"? at the end of the error code means a firewall
problem.? I uninstalled the Norton Firewall on the laptop. One tech says I
should format the hard drive and reinstall to fix the problem. The mail
works in Outlook Express so I'm through fighting it!

Follow the information supplied by comcast - mine works perfectly, even
using Exchange.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.
