I having a problem sending e-mail with Windows mail. I can receive mail but
for some reason it is not sending the mail. I am running my internet
connection off of a Sprint mobile broadband card. Could this have any effect
on not being able to send e-mail? I am also updating everything from my XP
desktop to my Vista laptop (like my address book and what not). Does anyone
know how in the world I can get e-mail's to send?

Once you are connected to the net the method shouldn't really
have much effect on email. Often, providing you have your
SMTP options specified correctly, some dodgy antivirus software
is interfering.

Are you a Norton or McAfee victim?

Whose SMTP server are you using?
Please post the complete error message.

Norton may not be the problem in this particular instance, but it can't be
ruled out. It has been the culprit in all sorts of odd WM failures.
I suggest you uninstall Norton and replace it with either of these two
free antivirus programs: AVG or Avast.

Norton. But why would it let you receive but not send.

I don't know what it does or how but we have had countless
problems reported here that have been sorted by the removal
of non Vista compatible software such as Norton and McAfee.

note. Send and receive email use different protocols,
POP3 and SMTP, so presumably anti virus processing
is different too.

I am having the exact same problem and it just started about a week ago!
Please someone help!! I have called everyone....MS.....Gateway and Road
Runner....
I am so frusterated. Please help!

you're using a Sprint broadband card to connect to Roadrunner??????

You probably don't have the exact same problem.

explain exactly what you are doing, and post any complete error message.

A problem suddenly occuring out of the blue is symptomatic
of a dodgy antivirus application such as Norton or McAfee.

Uninstall them completely and replace with a
Vista compatible alternative such as...
Avast or AVG

Please do not Hijack somebody else's thread. Next time post one alone for your issue posting the exact error message with it.

Do you get any error message?
Is the Outbox empty?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
should be uninstalled.

Hi Carolyn Here, I also have that problem and i im running McAfee. that is
what is keeping my mail from going out as i find it in the McAfee unsent box.
not sure what to do about it as the computer i'm operating is a new Gateway
Laptop, and i don't want to take the chance on getting a virus . i'm in hopes
that they will find the answer to the problem.

Get Avast (http://www.avast.com), uninstall McAfee and install Avast without
email scanning.

Have you contacted McAfee re this?

Just get rid of (uninstall) the incompatible McAfee and
use a free compatible alternative such as
Avast http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html or
AVG http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-virus/us/frt/0

You'll be safe then.

I have a new Gateway laptop. I can receive emails but can't send them. They
all go into my outbox where they just sit. I don't get an error message so
for the first week or so I didn't even realize they wern't sending!!

If I am having the same exact problem with the SAME computer then why waste
everyone elses time when I can simply try and get help from the same thread??
What is the problem with that?
I think it is nice to know others are encountering the same problem because
then we can rule out user error. Don't you think??

How can you say that you are having exactly the same problem when the OP
didn't post the error message?

There are several different error messages associated with being able to
receive
but not send messages.
What is the problem with that?

User error cannot be ruled out without seeing the evidence,
ie. the error message and codes.

It is very difficult if not impossible for someone who is not a computer
specialist to judge whether the problem they are having is caused by
the same root cause as someone else's computer problem. Identical
error messages can have different root causes. Let the experts make
the judgment calls.
