Send to both an internet email account and microsoft exchange...

A few months ago we upgraded our office to a small
business server 2003. As a result we updated all
computers in the office with Microsoft outlook 2003. We
used to be able to send internal emails, within office
(using Microsoft exchange) together with external emails.
(The TO area had exchange and internet email addresses).
We do not host our own email, we pay a provider, however
we are using functions of Microsoft exchange. Currently
if I were to send a message to my supervisor using
microsoft exchange and CC my father who lives in another
city, I would receive an error message saying that my
supervisors email address is invalid (because it reads
the address (e-mail address removed) as an external email
address even though it is an internal address.) Is there
a setting in our server or Outlook 2003 that we need to
change in order to be able to send to internal and
external emails simulataneously?

Thanks!

Kim

Add domain.com to your recipient policy as the default and make sure all
mailboxes inherit the setting and are stamped with the correct SMTP address.
If you're using the same mailbox alias naming convention as your "real"
e-mail addresses use (as in, jsmith is the alias, (e-mail address removed) is the
SMTP address) just adding domain.com will do it - otherwise you have to
specify the format, such as %g for given name, %s for surname, etc... see
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;285136 for more info. All
outbound mail sent via Exchange will now have the correct 'from' address.

I also suggest you ditch the POP and use Exchange to host your own mail -
it's a lot better in every way I can think of. The CEICW on SBS2003 will
help you set it up, but http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF002.html
explains how this works.
