Send / receive works initially then stops receiving

When I start my pc and start Outlook the send / receive function in email
works. Then sometimes, after no particular event, I am unable to receive
emails when I press the send / receive button. No dialogue box or error
codes occur. I seem able to receive but not send.

Any suggestions welcome.

Anthony

Can you clarify please, you state you are unable to receive emails when you
press the send/receive button but then you state you can receive but not
send.
What happens when you send/receive? Do the emails stay in your Outbox?
Do you have antivirus scanning your incoming/outgoing mail? Disable this
feature, it won't compromise your security.

Hi Kathleen

The send/receive button works when the computer is initially booted up.
Then after sometime it stops working. I can click on the send/receive button
but nothing happens. When I create a new mail and send it, this does get
sent.

I do not think that it is the security settings as I would expect this to be
a problem from the beginning.

Sometimes the updates for antivirus or your antivirus software can cause
problems with email. It's not recommended to have your AV scanning your
incoming/outgoing mail.
Are you running one or two firewalls? If you're running XP and have the
Windows firewall enabled, have you allowed Outlook.exe? Have you checked
Outlook for any add ins or coms that might conflict? Are there any desktop
search tools installed? Many of those aren't compatible with Outlook.
Have you checked your application event viewer to see if there are any
Outlook or Office related errors? Look for the event ID number and source.
