I hit the Send/Receive button and it start downloading new messages. By the
time it get to message 5 of 35, Outlook has a problem and needs to close.
When it Outlook opens up again, it starts all over again. So by now I have 4
copies of message 1 to 5, downloading every message all over again!!!! Please
help!

The first few messages download again because the send/receive process did
not complete successfully and Outlook doesn't realize it had downloaded
those messages the prior time. If this happened to me, I'd use my web
browser to log into my mail service and check to see what the next message
was that Outlook wanted to work on and perhaps move it to another
server-side folder to get it out of the way to make sure it wasn't blocking
the download process.

Okay thank you, but how do I use my web browser to log into my mail service
to see the messages being downloaded?

Your mail service's web pages should tell you that. I have no way of
knowing because I don't know who hosts your mail.
