'Send Pictures via E-Mail' Dialog Box Missing

Hi,

I don't know if I should ask this here, or on an IE6/OE newsgroup...here
goes:

My Dell machine came with XPHome SP1 with IE6/OE. If I want to send a
jpg quickly, I right click on the file, left click Send To, left click
Mail Recipient, and then I get a 'Send Pictures via E-Mail' dialog asking
if I want to resize the picture before sending. Once I complete the
diaglog, OE opens (if not already open) with the file attached.

My friend just got a Gateway pc with XPHome SP1 with IE6/OE preinstalled.
But, when she right clicks on a jpg, left clicks Send To, left clicks
Mail Recipient, she gets no 'Send Pictures via E-Mail' resize dialog box.
All she's presented with is a new mail note with her jpg attached and
ready to send.

I don't know if the 'Send Pictures via E-Mail' appears if she uses the
File and Folder Tasks method:
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/digitalphotography/getstarted/shareit/
email.asp

How do I get the 'Send Pictures via E-Mail' dialog box to appear? I've
looked all over.

Sincerely,
Bruce

What photo editor are you using (e.g., MS Paint, MS Picture It, IrfanView)?

What photo editor is she using?

She might try...

Start > Run > regsvr32 shimgvw.dll (note the space)

and/or...

Email Page - IE (right click) w/ Clickable Link (Line 60)

Hi,

I don't have any photo editor set as my default, but, I do have
installed:

a left double-click opens a jpg with this
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

a right click offers me:
preview...which uses Windows Pictire and Fax Viewer
open...Import into Adobe PhotoShop Elements
and of course print, edit, etc...

a right click, open, opens a jpg with this
Microsoft Photo Editor

a right click, open with offers me (in this order):
Microsoft Photo Editor
Dell Image Expert (by Jasc)
Paint
Microsoft Picture It! 7.0
Internet Explorer
Irfan View
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

a right click, open with, choose program, does not offer me:
Adobe Photo Gallery
Adobe PhotoShop Elements 2.0
Photo Impression 4 by ArcSoft (how do I get this to appear with open with,
or choose program, so I don't have to browse; I know I can simply launch
any program and then use it to open a file)

Back to my frind's situation...the only non-Microsoft photo editor she has
is Photo Impression 5 by ArcSoft, and possibly whatever came with her Canon
Powershot camera.

Bruce,

"regsvr32 shimgvw.dll" should fix this problem. Tried it?

"regsvr32 shimgvw.dll" should fix this problem. Tried it?

Hi, Ramesh,

As you can see, PA Bear also suggested the same. But no, I haven't been
able to pass it on to my friend, yet, since I need to walk her through any
registry edit over the phone, and I haven't been able to get a hold of her.

However, her Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is what opens up her jpgs,
gifs, etc, when she double left clicks on such a file. I guess what you
and PA Bear are suggesting is that 'regsvr32 shimgvw.dll' may be working ok
to view files, but not working properly to give the resizing dialog box
when she does a right click, send to, mail recipient. Yes?

Sincerely,
Bruce

Bruce,

'regsvr32 shimgvw.dll' not only sets the default viewer. Plus, it changes many registry keys. For instance, one can double-click the images and open Windows Picture Viewer, but cannot get the resize dialog [either while using Common Tasks folder view or right-clicking a file and send to mail recipient]. What I've noted is, the problem is with Perceived Types in most occassions. Means, your [friend's] jpg file types are not set in the registry as "image" type, but can view using Picture and Fax Viewer.

Registering the shimgvw again would fix the same.
