Hi everyone. Is it safe to send any file through msn messenger as I heard the person receiving the music, or work documents can follow a path or something and hack into your computer or even find out personal details about yourself.

Hi everyone. Is it safe to send any file through msn messenger as I heard the person receiving the music, or work documents can follow a path or something and hack into your computer or even find out personal details about yourself.

Grateful,

With an IM client like MSN Messenger, moving files between computers (as opposed
to text messages between computers) opens a direct communication between those
computers (as opposed to computer to MSN Messenger server). So yes, if you send
a file to a friend, you and he can see each others ip address. And the IM
client provides each person the ability to see publicly provided profile
information, that you or he provides, about the other person.

Also, audio and video is done in the same way.

Direct communication (computer to computer) is done to reduce latency, and
improve quality of signal.

1) Only put into your profile what you want others to know about you. Dohh.
2) Do Text communication with anybody (except spimmers), but Files, Video, or
Voice only with those that you trust.
3) Use a NAT router, and a firewall. Which you should be doing already.

Cheers,
Chuck
