Most of the time when I use the computer I get an error message " Windows
Explorer has encounterd a problem and needs to close." A checklist appears
and when this is finalized the computer freezes and I have to restart the
computer. Sometimes the computer asks me to "send' or 'not send' a message to
microsoft. It doesn't matter what I choose, everytime the computer freezes
and I have to restart.

Unfortunately, this isn't enough information to get a specific answer.
Your post is the equivalent of saying, "it's broken". Your problems
could be caused by either software or hardware. Here are generic
troubleshooting steps for you to take:

For software issues - First check for malware, as follows (links follow
step below):

1) Scan in Safe Mode with current version (not earlier than 2004)
antivirus using updated definitions.

Before you remove malware, get LSPFix (or WinSockFix for XP which you
can get from MajorGeeks) - see links below.

2) Remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-aware. These
programs are free, so use them both since they complement each other.
There is a new version of CWShredder from Intermute. I would not
install the other Intermute programs, however. Alternately, there are
CoolWebSearch malware removal steps at SilentRunners.

Be sure to update these programs before running, and it is a good idea
to do virus/spyware scans in Safe Mode. Make sure you are able to see
all hidden files and extensions (View tab in Folder Options).

If the malware remains even after you used Ad-aware and Spybot, you can
scan with HijackThis. HijackThis is an excellent tool to discover and
disable hijackers, but it requires expert skill. See below for
HijackThis links, including sites where you can post your HJT logs. A
combination of HijackThis and About:Buster works well in removing the
About:Blank homepage hijacker. Again, this is an expert tool and
novices should get help with it.

3) If you are running Windows ME or XP, you should disable/enable System
Restore after the system is clean because malware will be in the
Restore Points. With ME, you must disable System Restore completely.
With XP, you can delete all but the most recent (presumably clean)
System Restore point from the More Options section of Disk Cleanup
(Run>cleanmgr).

For hardware issues -

1) Open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing). Obviously
you can't do this with a laptop, but you can hear if the fan is running
and feel if the laptop is getting too hot.

2) Test the RAM - I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org - let the test
run for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately.

3) Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the mftr.

4) The power supply may be going bad or be inadequate for the devices
you have in the system - this isn't applicable to a laptop, of course.

5) Test the motherboard with something like TuffTest from
www.tufftest.com.

Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out suspected parts
with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing yourself and/or are
uncomfortable opening your computer, take the machine to a good local
computer repair shop (not a CompUSA or Best Buy type of store).

Well the problem is probably not hard to fix some more info would be
helpful. Does it happen when you try to open my computer or the control
panel? when it says that choose "click here" and find out what the
modname is.

Anyway to fix the problem go to start, run and type in inetcpl.cpl and
then that will launch internet properties, go to the advanced tab and
uncheck Enable thirdparty browser extensions. 90% of the time it's an
extension messing up windows explorer. if it's still broke go to start,
then run and launch sfc /scannow
this will scan your computer and try to make sure your XP files are good
