All- If I'm selling Windows XP, and it came with a laptop,
how does the new owner register? This version has been
registered.

How is title transfered??

If it came pre-installed on a laptop, then you don't. You cannot
sell/transfer an oem copy of XP. It is tied to that laptop for ever. This is
one reason why you paid less for an oem version of xp.

You can't transfer the license on an OEM version of Windows XP.

More Info.

You have to sell the laptop with XP. You can sell it but only with the
laptop.

This is the reason your version of XP was 1/2 price.

Greetings --

If the OS came pre-installed on your laptop, it's an OEM license.
The only legal way to sell an OEM license, once it's been installed
onto a computer, is to sell the entire computer.

If you sell your computer with the XP, Microsoft does not care who the owner
is. Don't worry about registration or activation.

The essential is activation - which belongs to the machine (and
accompanies it automatically), not to the owner. It does not need
registering to an owner - that is for the benefit of marketing. As long
as you transfer the CD (if any), documentation, and certificate of
Authenticity, which on a laptop should be stuck to the underside and
contain the Product Key of 25 characters needed for a reinstallation,
you have done all that is needed
