selective Outlook sync of notebook w/desktop w/o server?

After about two years of using only my notebook PC, I've built a new
desktop workstation. I use Outlook 2000 on both the notebook and the
desktop, Internet mail only, and want the desktop to be my main mail
repository.

I don't have access to (an) Exchange Server, nor do I forsee it any time
soon.

I would like to be able to selectively sync messages to my notebook from my
desktop. Ideally, I would like something that works exactly like Offline
Folders, except the "primary" source would be my desktop's .PST instead of
an Exchange server.

I know I could "leave a copy of messages" on the POP3 server I use, but
then I have to download everything to the notebook, effectively. Another
method would be to share the desktop .PST, then open it in Outlook on the
notebook, and selectively copy messages to corresponding folders, but
that's neither elegant not efficient. A last method would be to write a
VBA (?) script to automate the latter process, but I could still see this
as being inelegant and error prone.

If such a utility or what-have-you exists, I'd appreciate a pointer in the
right direction. Thanks in advance.

I didnt think it was going to be this hard? I thought
sync would be asier than this. Anyway , I would love to
figure this out too...
