Three questions regarding the deletion of newsgroup messages:

FIRST, is there a way to delete all messages in a newsgroup except your own
message threads? If so, is there a way to delete all messages in ALL
newsgroups at ONCE except your own message threads?

SECOND, is there a way to delete all messages PRIOR to a GIVEN DATE except
your own message threads?

THIRD, is there a way to only download new headers SUBSEQUENT to a GIVEN
DATE ( such as the purge date used in the previous item)?

Blue, you can't delete messages from a newsgroup. You can mark threads as
read, if you wish.

Richard,

I regularly delete the rantings of the Ubuntu crowd. I simply select the
first, scroll to the last, hold the Shift key down, click on the last and
press the Delete key! Gone!

That's what the venerable kill file is for, so you don't have to bother
with manual deletions.

True, but we should be able to delete them from our newsreader, shouldn't
we?

Thank you, Charles. Can there be a problem of these messages being
downloaded again, depending on our download settings? Or once they are
downloaded and deleted do they remain deleted?

What is the "venerable kill file" ?

Thanks Charles, but is there a way to quickly select all messages but your
own message threads or replies? As that point we could delete all the
downloaded messages, but the ones of continuing interest. Likewise, is
there a way to mark certain messages as 'watched' and then delete everything
but the flagged messages?

Modern news readers don't use that expression anymore.
It has been toned down to something politically correct, like "Block Sender".

Thank you for the reply, Frank. I believe I understand that feature,
however, that feature only filters the messages to SHOW my messages or
replies. It doesn't DELETE all other downloaded messages except for my
messages and replies. Does that make sense? What I want to do is delete
all the thousands of messages and headers I have downloaded over the months
WITHOUT deleting messages of ongoing interest such as our own messages or
flagged messages. Can it be done?
